Creating an Efficient Warehouse Management Solution To enhance product Distribution
Users and Audience
The Warehouse Management System built in conjunction with our client was a unique project that sought to provide extensive services for both internal and external users. Our client intended to use the system within Salesforce to facilitate the inbound and outbound of supplies, such as medical equipment, while tracking inventory and placing additional orders, as necessary.
On the other end of this system is a public portal powered through Salesforce that the client would make available to external users such as hospitals, daycares, schools, nursing homes, and pharmacies to request the delivery of essential medical supplies.
Problem
The client was looking to implement a dual approach to their Warehouse Management solution to enhance internal processes and create a means for external parties to place orders for medical equipment delivery.
However, the client’s existing systems were reliant on manual tracking of records through paper forms, which severely limited their capability to quickly process and track requests and pull accurate ad hoc reporting data. Moreover, the client did not have an existing portal for external users to place orders themselves, hampering their facility’s productivity by needing to take calls and manually relay orders, leading to errors and miscommunications.
In the event of an emergency, the client’s facilities were severely limited in their ability to deliver due to their lengthy processes, which contributed to a backlog of requests and a significant delay in response time.
Due to the multipronged nature of our partner’s business, StackNexus needed to ensure that the internal Warehouse Management System and external portal could communicate seamlessly for effective tracking and delivery.
One of the first solutions implemented by the StackNexus team was a platform within Salesforce that integrated a variety of processes to discontinue the use of manual paper tracking. As a supplement to this improvement, the team also installed advanced ad-hoc reporting capabilities for warehouse staff users with direct access to live data while enabling a convenient means to build ad-hoc reports and dashboards and easily export data. In addition, the team incorporated a scanner integration for internal warehouse use to expedite logistical processes.
For the external users, our team built a portal accessible to schools and medical facilities to order their own supplies that communicated with the internal Warehouse Management System to automate the order creation process.
Impact
The result of this multifaceted project was instantly noticeable, with the client reporting incredible results and improvements soon after launch.
StackNexus’s Warehouse Management solution reduced the warehouse’s order processing time while increasing transparency through the availability of live data to inform immediate and accurate decisions. As a result, the client’s facility is more capable of handling sizable orders efficiently and with little error.
Moreover, due to the transition away from manual paper processing, the client’s system traceability and digital audit trail were significantly improved, allowing for easy generation of accurate reporting and record-keeping spanning from months to years.
